Hi all
The Jet 3520b lathe, and maybe others, gas a remote NVR on and off switch which I want to remove from its present little box and put into a bigger one. The switch is the type that you push in to turn the machine off and give a little twist to release and turn the machine on.

My problem is that I can find no way of removing it from its current box. There has to be some sort of screw collar / grub screw or something holding it in the box but there is nothing obvious.

Any ideas anyone ?

Hi Graham I have had a look at mine did you take the four screws out on the front of the box may be a collar inside or may just clip in.

Graham,
If it is anything like the one on my Silverdrive, it is not possible to remove it as once the unit is assembled the only way it comes out is if you happen to drop a large lump of yew on it and if breaks (you then have to improvise with duct tape and elastic bands to keep it in place!). It has a split collar with a shoulder round which appears to make it a 'one time' fit.

Well done John.
That was the push/pull switch, I was talking about the push/twist switch on the remote box but that was there as well.
Time for an email to Jet...... but I bet it won't be as simple as that :)

Yes Bill, thats the beastie, and a damn ite cheaper than the Jet version. I just assumed it was a NVR switch. The question still exists though, how do you separate it from the case ?

I am seriously thinking of cutting the case up to just leave the faceplate and glueing it in place over a hole in the new box.

Yes, that gets me into the box but there is no obvious way of getting the switch out of the box so I can put it in a different box with the speed control etc. ( I want a remote control box but I prefer this type of switch to the push pull one used on the headstock )

Some of the emergency stop buttons have the switch, which clips on to the back of the button and then a release collar, which needs a special tool to unscrew. I don't know if yours is of this type but it might be worth a look to see if it works in the same way.

Can you not just mount the cover and switch on your box?

Bill

The emergency stop switch simply wires directly onto the back of the pull/push start/stop switch so it would be worth considering the purchase of another switch and suitable cable, then remove the original switch and replace it with the new one. Judging by the TLC prices, not an expensive option, and if you ever sell the lathe, you would be able to do so with the original, undamaged switch.
As a matter of interest, why do you want to put the switch in a bigger box?

I want a full remote control box.i.e I want to have the speed dial and reverse switch as well as the emergency stop on a movable switch panel. Most of the bigger lathes have that now and it seems like a common sense change.

I assume you're aware of the Mustard Monster site and links such as this?
