This looks, to me, to be a reasonable unit for someone wanting to do the occasional piece of scroll saw work. Can the scrolling specialists advise?

Cheers,

David

Hi David

I've never encountered a Jet scroll saw before but looking at the model on the APTC site, it seems to have ticks in all the right boxes and it looks competitively priced. If you decide to go for it, I'd love to hear how it performs.

Hi David,

I can't speak specifically about the scroll-saw, but I own a couple of Jet tools and have to say they are probably the best power-tools i've used (Bandsaw and Spindle Sander).

I would definitly buy more Jet gear.

Thanks for the comments - I'll take a look at the saw in the flesh at Tools2005 and perhaps take the plunge! Cheers, David

If I was going to the Tools 2005 exhibition and looking to buy a scroll saw, I'd also be asking Axminster questions about their AWFS18. It's probably a little too expensive for someone who's only going to be doing the occasional bit of fretwork, but it looks so reminiscent of a Hegner that it may well be a wonderful bargain. I'd love to get my hands on one!

I wanted to get my hands on the MD of Hegner when that Axminster came out - three days after I'd bought a Hegner for almost twice the price! They muttered something about patent lapse/foreign clones, but looked pretty sheepish about the whole affair. Bottom line, I'm delighted with my Hegner and I'm also quite convinced that I've got a better built/better quality machine with a vastly better motor. Hope I'm right, although for the amount of scroll-sawing I do, it probably doesn't matter!

Anyway, I second the Jet Tools recommendation - I've got several and can't fault any of them.

Ray.
