On Tuesday my Jet pillar drill had a funny turn. Push the green on button in and the drill starts, but as soon as you let go of the button,
it goes off. Axminster sent a new switch box which I've fitted tonight, exactly the same problem. Push and hold the on switch in and the drill works,
let go and it goes off. Surely they couldn't have sent a another duff switch! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Could it be the centrifugal switch on the motor? Sorry I don't know this particular drill but this is a common symptom for this fault. Should be able to get a replacement part quite easily.

Thank you for the help Porker :) I didn't know it had one of them as well! Back on the phone to Axminster tomorrow! The Jet bobbin sander packed in last week,
that was collected yesterday for repair. I can see this going back as well!

I just bought this drill and only after 2 runs, as I was setting it up, it died..
Axminster gave me the go ahead to check the wiring to in th nv switch and the saftey swith in the lid. But all seemed normal so they sent me new one which is fine.
Did make me wonder though how good is jet anyway..
Fist time this has happened in 25 years of buying tools. Lucky I guess.

Is the incoming supply voltage good?

The incoming voltage is good, but it turns out that's part of the problem. They fitted switches at the factory from the JPD13 which is a much smaller motor and requires less voltage, and then Axminster have sent out the same switch as a replacement. Thankfully I managed to speak to someone at Axminster this morning who knew a little bit than the others I'd spoken to. He's sending out two switches as the other problem is, the switch is called a JD3, but there are several types of JD3, some have 8 and some have 10 terminals. The two switches I have both have 8, and then there is a separate plastic holder with a further two terminals which slides on the the front of the switch box. The switch for the JD15 should have 10 terminals on it, sounds like mine has been wired/set up by a pillock! The replacements might be here tomorrow, more likely to be Monday, if they don't work it'll be going back.

Axminster collected my Jet bobbin sander on Wednesday, that's lasted 10 months with very light usage.

Sounds like you may have it sorted, best of luck.

Appreciated n0legs, I'll give an update on Monday.

A very very helpful chap at Axminster sent out two more switches which were received on Monday and sadly, neither of them worked. I could see why there is some difficulty in identifying the correct switch with them all being called a JD3, one had a number of grey wires and terminals already connected, so there was no way that one could be wired up to the drill. In the end Axminster agreed to take the Jet back and the new drill was delivered today, an Axminster Trade Series AT2801DP. Not too dissimilar form the Jet, it's certainly a lot quieter and runs smooth and true. I understand this Axminster Trade Range are made in a factory which make only pillar drills and nothing else, so in theory, are made to more exacting standards.
