Hello all
just setting up my new charnwood w590 planer thicknesser.
It has the exact same manual as the jet 310 PT so i guess setup is the same.
There is not much to put together just the fence and arm for the planer.
BUT... what are these 4 bolts and bracket thingy for?
The manual doesn't say, infact the manual is rubbish
Anyone notice from there PT?

Hers a pic

Thanks

The "bracket thingy" is indeed for setting the knives, I used to have a jet thicknesser with the same setting guide though I didn't find it that brilliant

Ah ok thanks for the quick reply guys :)
I bought this blade setting jig with it also:

Don't suppose you can remember this one..... When fixing the top arm on for the planer, There is a small black plate of metal with 2 bolts where the arm connects to the machine. (top left if looking straight on) Do you remove the black metal plate then fit the arm or fit it over the plate?

Now i wonder where the 4 black screws go!

Thanks

I've got a similar bracket thingy on my Minimax - similar profile but about 10" long. It's brilliant for blade setting - you just hold it and them down with one hand and tighten the end two nuts with the other.
That short one looks a bit useless but if you had two you could join them with a bit of wood and work it the same as mine.

Hi Doug hows the hand you still convalescing? Gives a us a shout if there's anything we could do or anything you want.

PS that Charnwood thing looks over complicated. The one you've already got is spot on but as I say you need two of them linked with a little batten (or one long one)

I never got on with those setting jigs either (fussy moi :-" ) so I ended up making my own

You could easily do the same if you so desired from a block of wood.
Can't help with the arm/plate question as mine was just a thicknesser.

Hands healing fine thanks mate, painful if I try to lift anything heavy but I quickly worked out not to try lifting anything heavy   also not as grumpy either now I can tinker down the allotment, previous two weeks of doing chuff all drove me crazy, see ya Thursday with a bit of luck.
