I have the Jet AFS air filter and bought the extra charcoal filter.

Something that ive been wondering about is it tells you to put the charcoal side facing out and regular side inside.

I've always thought filtration went from coarse to fine as the air moves through. My filter is defintiely telling me the charcoal is meeting the air first then after it passes to the regular filter. Maybe I have a defective filter, or is this normal? =s.

What is the charcoal filter supposed to do? IME charcoal is used to filter odours not dust and it does this by adsorbing the odours onto the surface of charcoal granules.
I can't see that it has any effect on dust filtration and so it is little more than a gimmick.

If you want finer filtration, fit a sheet of the 1 micron filter fabric sold for home brewed bio diesel fuel on ebay and fit this after the main filter element.

As said, charcoal filters are for odours not dust. The instructions are correct for filtering out odours I think.

Cheers, Paul

I wasn't 100% how much it'll help but says it also takes out pollen, bacteria and other microscopic particles. I've been trying to improve the air quality so though I'd try it.

Thanks for the filter fabric suggestion, I might look into that.
