It might and so will sole wear. Remember too you are sharpening the blade and it will be shortened each time so in theory everything should balance out. In reality though the slot won't wear much and if heavily used might have to be adjusted to allow for blade sharpening.

Ah ok. It just seems that if the wood wears by even 1/5 mm, that would make it useless. I'm comparing it to how a mortise and tenon becomes loser as you take it apart several times.

But as you say, in practise it must be fine else they wouldn't exist. hmmmm
 
Even if the slot did wear too much to be used you can always Westernize by widening the slot to take a wedge. Or make a new body. :wink:
