and Hitler made some nice roads, but in general, I still think he's a cucumber.

I think the point is, he can walk the walk not just talk the talk, Jacob is a wind up merchant, if you take the bait then it's your own fault.
I wouldn't be without the beardy git ..... every forum should have one.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Personally, I agree with Tiddles and a good number of others here.

Common decency and friendliness should be the watchword of a good forum and having skills however good does not licence anyone to deliberately upset people and destroy threads.

Does that include comparing members to Hitler?

Great windows, from a craftsman.

for someone who doesn't care much for tools, the 16 planes under your bench beg to differ

The bottom line is there are those who can do it, those who piddle about and those who just talk about it and do nothing.

Some of either persuasion are a bit averse to having their egos poked.

For me there is nothing wrong with being interested in collecting tools to use but I'm not daft enough not to accept they make life easier rather than being essential (with the possible exception of the Veritas LA smoother) and I don't decry those who just do it with a minimum set.

Jacob is a case in point and whilst I am not a fan of rounded bevels myself I have difficulty in finding areas where he has been proved wrong, in fact the reverse is invariably true. Tool polishers take note.

You certainly won't find a thread that ends in an admission of being wrong from Jacob.

I'm sure you will forgive my bugbearism but there is a less than subtle difference between being proved to be wrong and an admission of being wrong. There are many threads, both here and elsewhere, where, after the knockabout is over, the underlying truth can be seen to be emerging.

Loads of planes!

I don't think anybody's ever denied that Jacob actually does perfectly respectable joinery. But that doesn't excuse his behaviour.

"Loads of planes"

Well he obviously knows what they were made for
Whereas some people think the sole object of woodwork tools is to talk about them
and never seem to make anything

I like what Jacob says. He's got experience of an old fashioned craft.

He does puncture some fairly high falutin balloons of some posters who seem to want to start sexualising wood working tools. I to appreciate good craftsmanship of tools but equally I worry when sometimes people get into micromanaging what is essentially a hand tool.

I'd prefer makin' things any day!

I don't think the 'puncturing' is the problem, it's the frequency. Saying the same thing over and over with the excuse that 'people don't get it', they get it, they just don't agree with it.

I agree with Jim, Tiddles and others, though there are quite a few issues where I've stated that I do in fact agree with Jacob's pronouncements. There are other issues though, where in my view at least, I don't have a common understanding :-" - Rob
