Hi Guys. I was given a price for some planed beech from a local timber merchant. I had bought some oak from him a few weeks ago that was £7-40 per metre at 150mm wide and 18mm thick. I mentioned that I would like some beech and he came back with a price. I said I could do with 8 metres and he quoted me £84 plus the dreaded VAT. That works out at £12-60 per metre, is this guy having a laugh or what. At that price it is just not viable for the job in hand. I know most things have gone up in price but this does seem to be over the top to me. Would appreciate any comments.

Tis a bit pricey. thats just over 1 cubic foot and should be 20 > 30 pounds for the wood pluss machining charge pluss VAT, so seems he's charging £55 to machine it up for you?
