I have just purchased an Iroko gate made to order from a carpenter. However it's a very light yellow colour at the moment an has yet to be oiled.

What type of oil is best to get a darker finish. Would teak oil get it to the sort of shade I like.

I can't post any links as I'm not permitted on the forum yet. But it's a short of brown/yellow colour

Hi, Sparky24

Iroko will darken with age but also go lighter if left untreated out side.
The only thing about treating wood left out side is thet you will have to keep doing it,left alone Iroko will go a silvery colour and stay like that.

I am sure some one will be along to recomend something to you, if not there is the Finishig Advice section.

Sadolins seemed to hold up pretty well on iroko ( you need to be careful cause one of there tins isn't recommended for it all  ) you'll need to wipe down first with meths and don't expect it to dry as quick as it says on the tin - natural light and air speeds up the process though. Keep it eye on it and it should do the job just fine
