Anyone done this? Having treated some joists before replacing floorboards of a first floor bedroom (In US this is the second floor) am looking to provide some acoustic and thermal insulation without causing a ventilation problem to the joists.

How have members approached this? Suggestions appreciated.

Gut feel suggests that any thermal insulation between the two floors will be largely pointless as rooms below and above will be at the same temperature (give or take).

Acoustic insulation is AFAIK costly to do properly. Ideally you isolate completely the ceiling in the room below and 'float' it clear of the ceiling joists aka floor joists of the room above.

Yes I'm beginning to suspect it's pointless and don't want to lose my Victorian cornices so won't put in a false ceiling below the original. Thought some insulation packed in might help with ambient sound transferring downstairs if not contact/flooring thuds.

Noticed the wife drop a few things on the bare flo'bo'ds the other night and it was so pronounced
