Insert Nut Advice

Could anyone give me any advice on using inset nuts (e.g. http://www.screwfix.com/p/insert-nut-ty ... f-50/61859). I am in the process of building secondary glazing for my sash windows and I wanted to have mount points that i can take the secondary glazing off each summer. Hopefully I will have some pictures after Christmas.

I suggest you experiment to find the optimum tapping drill to suit your timber to get a good hold and a flush fit.
Use a lip and spur bit for a good clean hole.

In my experience they take quite a torque once nearly seated - so it's worth buying the extra long Allen keys. I wouldn't recommend trying to use a power tool on them.

Generally I use 7-7.5mm drill depending on material density - I would recomend a T-bar allen key to put them in as then you are pushing square into the material (which is harder to do with the L-shaped keys)
Drill a very shallow recess for the head with a small forstner bit (select the inserts carefully as they are not always concentric)
I find that in softer materials you need to lean on the key quite hard as you screw the insert in or the rough thread can act like an auger. P
