I was lucky enough to meet him in his shop/studio in Venice a couple of years ago, very friendly and not offish about the language barrier. The items on display are/were absolutely stunning [as per the photo's] There was a carved wallet on the shelf that I had a look at, it even had slivers of ivory representing the edges of credit cards in their pockets. The wallet was almost indistinguishable from my own but he wouldn't let me swap. :(
i bought a small carved book which was all I could afford. There is another place a few streets away selling similarly inspired pieces but the carving is 'lumpy' [don't know the correct term] as opposed to realistic.
The portraits are a little out of date, he is an old fellow now, with a lifetime of woodwork evident on his gnarled fingers.
I hope to return while he is still going.
