imperial dowelling

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

I'm after some 1/2" dowelling but Axminster only sell metric.

I had the same problem when building our bed, in the end I went for 13mm and ran some sandpaper down it a few times. It went in with a whack! Wickes sell dowelling. Must admit it was better than I thought it might be too.

Have you considered buying a cutter e.g.

Veritas Dowel Cutters


I have the 3/8" one - it is fantastic. You can also make slightly tapered dowels with them too. The size is adjustable so you can tweak the dowel to your exact spec.

Funnily enough I came across the plugit website when I Googled but the site wouldn't open up for me and kept timing out. This morning it's fine.
