Hi All
i confess to having been lurking here for a few weeks, so I've decided it was time to show my face again, in a manner of speaking.

I've been out of things owing to a major illness. I suffered from a cardiac arrest in Ikea in Bristol just after Christmas. By a miracle I was promptly given life-saving first aid, the ambulance arrived in record time, the paramedics stabilised me, and I was admitted to Bristol Royal Infirmary. In hospital I suffered another arrest and further complications and was under heavy sedation for several weeks. This was followed by open heart surgery (to replace my aortic valve) and a further operation to deal with a massive infection. I returned home eventually, and was very weak for a long time, but my recovery is progressing steadily.

I am now taking tentative steps to return to work, starting with light duties and reduced hours.

But the really good news is that I have been spending time in the workshop again. I have been fiddling with my tools (improvements, improvements), and am now making something for the kitchen. All physical activity, i.e. woodwork, has to be carried out under SWMBO's eagle eye. But I jest - she's been wonderful during this time. The bad news is that I haven't been to any shows - maybe next year.

Apologies for the long post, but it's nice to be back.

Les :)

Blimey, Les, you've had a rough time  But good to see you're on the mend. Look after yourself.

Cheers

Welcome back Les

Pleased for you on the return to the workshop

It gives you something to focus the mind on

Hope you keep well

Ikea does that to you...:)

Seriously, great news and welcome back.

Glad you are back Les and firing on most if not all cylinders, very fortunate that you were somewhere that had folks available capable of rendering you supportive treatment quickly.
Nothing like a few relaxing sessions putting the tools and shop to rights to get the spirits up.

Crikey, nice to see that Ikea has those life packs and people know how to use them, credit to them

Hope you recover swiftly!

Wondered where you had gone Les, good to hear you're recovering and back in the workshop and on the forum.

Cheers, Paul

What everyone else has already said.

Now get in that workshop and make something,. oh........... and take a camera with you..... :D :D :D :D

Well Noel took the words out of my mouth, LOL. Sounds like you HAVE had a rough ride Les. Good to see you back to better health and back on here again. All the best for the future.

Guys

Thank you all for your good wishes and encouragement.

Alan - my problem was a congenital defect in my valve. I'd been feeling very tired and unwell last autumn and been to see a specialist. The defect was picked up in the initial test but no immediate action was proposed. Ho hum ...

And as for Ikea - I shall be forever grateful for the training and prompt action by the two lads that saved my life. I can forgive them their unpronouncable product names. :?

Rob - fear not - the 'BlokeBlade' will be in use very soon!

Les
