The problem is that now you'll want to try and rescue something from the remains!
Been there, done that and I've never managed to resurrect anything I've been happy with so maybe just start from scratch again? I'm
 
Just face off the bottom part (with the bump) then pop it in the "potentially useful bin" and save it for when you next need a hot melt glue block. It's already got a dovetail ten on on it and it's ready to go. Dead useful, I've got loads of them !
 
Oh dear, that was a nice looking piece of wood as well mate. It's a personal thing but I don't like to go too thin on most pieces. I'm not alone in this, a professional turner I met a couple of months ago said exactly the same thing to me. He liked his finished pieces to have a bit of weight to them and his customers agreed.
