hi all, beware of ikeas gloss kitchens. we brought one six months ago and all the door and draw fronts can be easily scratched with a lightly applied finger nail! it seems to effect all their gloss range sometimes the scratches can be difficult to see they can look like cobwebs across the surface. if you have one take a front off some where it wont matter and lightly move your finger nail across the surface and if its anything like ours it will easily scratch. our friends have a grey gloss kitchen that they brought from ikea 3 years ago and it is as hard as nails. the quality has certainly dropped since then, theirs has a finish that wraps around the surface and has an orange peel type effect to all the doors, draws, plinths and side panels and is brilliant quality. we only have this orange peel effect on the plinths and side panels which do not scratch and very much fit for purpose. we have complained and complained and we have been made to feel its our fault! we believe they know the qaulity has slipped and are trying to cover it up so it does not become a huge issue for them! :(

Sorry about your problems Weststone, but it would have been nice if you contributed something to the forum first, rather than just joining in order to obtain a platform to air your private grievances. I'm sorry but I hate this kind of behavior, get some balls and sort it out with IKEA don't go dropping your crap in my lap!

I for one would be most happy if the mods deleted this post forthwith

hmm thats harsh. I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt and assume the OP doesnt know the ropes so to speak.

Anyway - if it was me and it was my kitchen, I'd look at some independant testing...

hello, i thought the idea behind a forum was to help others? My post is there to help others who may be considering purchasing a gloss ikea kitchen. for your information we have tried sorting this with ikea but they are not admitting they have an issue with quality when they clearly have. just trying to help others who may end up with the same issues. :)

Well, you are posting this all over the net, aren't you?

Might be better talking to Trading Standards, consumer folk or your local law centre.

Hi westone

Try sending an email to [email protected] who I believe is the acting UK manager.

Out of interest, are you saying the doors are possibly sprayed and not vinyl wrapped like the plynths?

regards

Bob

Weststone, sorry you are wrong, the forum is a virtual community that is there for the benefit and mutual support of its members, it is not a mouth piece for you to vent your spleen over a non woodwork related commercial dispute. I'm truly sorry that you appear to be having problems with your kitchen but that is a matter between you and the supplier and as another poster has mentioned possibly Trading Standards. I do not believe that this most has any moral intent, you are not posting for our members benefit only your own. As I said in my previous post, had you been a standing member with a history of contributing to the forum I could have taken your comments regarding "helping the forum members" at face value, but you haven't and therefor I stand by my original comment that you have only joined this forum in order to gain a "soap box" from which to bleat.

Personally, and I speak as one who in the past has been subject to a wholly unjustified web assault, this is a cowardly way to conduct your grievance, the retailer in question cannot in any practical way defend themselves against this kind of attack. There is no way that we can judge whether your comments are true and justified but a proportion of the people here (and every where else you have posted this drivel) will jump to the conclusion the retailer is in the wrong and their reputation will be damaged as a result. But I suspect that is actually what you want.

Take this somewhere else.

Was your Ikea kitchen cheap ?

I often get customers asking me to fit Ikea, b&q ,homebase etc etc but I try to warn them off. They are cheap for a reason , they are usually poor quality. The only good point for Ikea kitchens is that the fittings are all Blum.

As the others have said complain to Ikea you never know they might send you a set of brand new doors & drawER fronts (that will scratch again in 6 months)
