Picked up a big chunky board of this for £20at the excellent hardwood offcut shop on Brentwood today. I've made it a habit to try and buy something new to me each time I go there.

What's it like to work with and finish?

Can be soft/brittle, the dust is awful and it leaches out a yellow/green stain that can discolour finishes.

That's the negatives out of the way :|

The bit I've got looks pretty old, was stashed in a corner so hopefully any leaving will be minimal. It looks to have a really interesting grain to it

Some people regard it as a kind of poor man's oak. Plain grain usually. When it gets wet it stains everything yellow and is very annoying. End grain reminds me of bamboo.
