Hi,

I need some advice please,

I have a Volkswagen Touran 1.9 TDI PD S 5dr [7 Seat] which has done 146,000 - (2006)

The last time the toothbelt was changed was at : 72937 mile in 2008

Its running great, very smooth but I need to know which is the best way forward with regard changing the belt and associated parts i.e. roller, belt and pump. The car is still in a very good condition and performs great

I know that if the belt goes it will prove to be a very expensive repair and so want to deal with this now rather than later.

I would really appreciate any advice in terms of 'should I change it now' and what, if possible, would be the approx. cost? Am I going over board on this by having the whole thing done instead of just the belt?

Many Thanks to all responses in advance ;-)

did you realise that this is a woodworking forum, with the odd bit of metal working discussed?

If you ring round some garages etc they will give you prices for the belt changes. Also what does the service intervals say re the belt? Surely a few hundred quid spent now is better than 800 quid plus for a new engine. :)

When we had Golfs the timing belt was supposed to be changed every 70k miles?
There is sure to be a VW Forum - best to get advice from there?

Yes, change it soon. At that mileage if the belt snaps it will effectively write off the car.
An independent VW specialist will do a good job for a lot less than a main dealer. Most mechanics will recommend changing the pump at the same time as it costs so little extra when the belt is off.

yes, but the op joined to ask a question about how much a cam belt would cost to change. Look at the post count "1"
