How to smooth the edges of a 5mm thick MDF board?

Hi!
I have a MDF board which is 5mm thick and it's edges are rough. how can I make the edges smooth? Please advise a cheap but effective method.

Sandpaper.

If its curved spokeshave or sandpaper, if its straight then plane it. Whatever you do make sure you take the proper precautions MDF dust is horrible stuff.
