Hi there

Finishing some maple in tru-oil on the lathe and getting black marks when attempting to cut it back with superfine steel wool: any better ideas much appreciated? Am I doing something wrong?

All the best

Simon.

How about some Scotchbright abrasive pads
various grades…I think grey a lighter grade…
plenty on ebay….
i bulk buy all the grades just in case. Gotta find em at the mo….hahaha
still not unpacked from the move…

Toolstation do a mixed pack of similar stuff, I use it a fair bit especially finishing tight curves in small things.

Lasts well enough and can be washed out to revive it a bit. Easy to cut with scissors. They call them contour sanding pads.
