Recently made a stable door for the neighbours and it was a bit of casual arrangement that I was originally going to be doing as favour but they now want to know what it would cost. The door is here stable-door-t97457.html Snag is I have not kept any hours as thought this was a freebee

Ball park figure for making and fitting excluding finish would be very handy :D

Id be guessing at 2 days to make, £200 materials, 1 day to fit.

Say £850?

Thanks Robin.

Using existing frame so less than a day fitting and think materials were closer to £100 but frankly never going to be able to dig out the receipts as the wood has sat around here for some time.

£650 for 3 days work! Wow never got close to charging that for woodwork but I did ask. Suspect I took more than two days making though but it was all done in dribs and drabs between proper jobs.

Its hard to guess at somebody elses costs, but I was working on workshop rate at being £25 per hour and site work at £150 per day.

I guessed material assuming to include timber, hardwood drips, glass, hinges, locks, handles, consumables.

Running a joinery factory, my hourly rate is much higher, but then machining time would be faster.

Yes we are all different. My overheads are very low but pay around here is also low so hard to compare but you have given me a good starting point to work from. Was charging just £12 an hour just a few years ago for workshop time but now I have alternative employment have upped that to £18 and thought that was expensive.

300 labour +vat. Sometimes it's not about money though. When I moved in to my gaff pennies were tight. My neighbour wouldn't take a penny for helping me with his digger. I've repaid the debt with extra now just because it's good to show a little love. Jeez I must be drunk [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

If you're fitting into an existing frame, I'd budget for a day unless you've got the luck of the Irish!

Depends where it is. I know of a front door that was fitted 12 years ago, in south west London. It cost £900, fitted in the existing frame, and it wasnt special.

My son, a carpenter in Somerset at the time, was going to move to London to make his fortune. But after two days of London traffic (12 years ago mind), decided he didnt want to be that rich and stayed in his home county.
