Is it a deliberate ploy by Microsoft to not have any junk filtering enabled so as to push one into paying for a better service ? Currently my Junk folder is 6177 and still growing! I know I can delete it but I'm amused now to see just how large it gets.

Probably time to create a new account !

If those emails are in your junk folder then it sounds like their junk filtering is working just fine. They keep junk items in a separate folder (rather than deleting them, for example) so you can check it periodically to make sure no "real" emails have been junked.

Exactly! This is how my NTL account works as well as hotmail. Gmail is similar but claims to auto delete spam entries on a 30day cycle but I've not checked how tightly they stick to this.

Then "lucky old you" RogerS! :D

My own domain E-mail address does get a fair few - not in the thousands, but "enough". I don't know if it makes any difference or not, but after checking them (in the spam folder - I use MS Outlook) I do delete them on a daily basis though.

One thing I HAVE noticed though, whereas I used to get LOADS of Viagra spams, I haven't seen a single one for a long time. I wonder if someone is trying to tell me something? If so, what? :D

I'm on Outlook which is just Microsoft's modern Hotmail from what I understand, My junk definitely gets deleted automatically once it becomes 30 days old.

Well I couldn't be ar*ed to wade through over 6000 emails in my junk folder so just deleted the lot.

This morning I have a fresh lot ...600+ :(

All these ladies wanting to give me a good time

I had a .btinternet email account for many years (so old the address was my name) that started to be engulfed with spam four or five years ago. I subsequently read that Yahoo, who were the email service provider for BT at that time, were hacked and tens of millions of email address, were stolen. There have been many major hacks of online databases including one at Currys who had my email address, and those are just the ones that we know about. Then my account started playing up continually, locking me out and requiring me to change my password. I suspect someone was trying to get into the account, trying passwords they had phished from stolen databases.

Anyway, I got fed up with that, and wading through hundreds of spam emails looking for the odd genuine one that had got caught up in them, and got myself a gmail email account. It was a niusance changing my details at my bank, amazon, ebay, paypal, et al., and also getting all my contacts to update their address books, but it was worth it; I check my gmail spam filter occasionally and invariably there is nothing in it at all.

Which I guess is behind my original post...I seem to recall reading about a paid version of Hotmail/Outlook and maybe that kills all the junk. Like my ISP who hosts my domain. I think they must delete the junk before it hits my inbox.
