All this sunshine's nice, but I was doing a PVA glue-up this morning and the adhesive was setting just a bit too fast for comfort. Luckily the cramps didn't need much adjustment to achieve square, but it was all becoming a touch agitating for a moment!

I've got a much bigger glue-up now, as I've only got fast hardener to go with my bottled UF glue, I think I'll mix up some Cascamite using iced water, that normally buys an extra few minutes.

Try applying wipe on poly to a finished box in 40c and 80% humdity!
Thats impossible. Drying time was about 30 seconds and the smears were horrecdous.
i had to resort to putting the poly in the fridge overnight, the box in an air conned room down to 25c, and lay on the floor to get the dryest conditions.

See, its not all paradise here (lol).

I broke out my cascamite the other day for similar reasons - I don't use it that often, but sometimes it's just the right thing.

Pictures please, otherwise it didn't happen :D

Terry.

Listen, after getting that lot organised, and trying to apply poly to a large awkward shaped box while lying on the floor, without spilling any on 'er indoors tiles, you think I could manage to take pictures as well??

I havent been in the workshop for 8 weeks now, with another 2 or 3 to go until temps go back down to "acceptable" enough to wear face masks and glasses.

Great for the suntan, dead stop for the woodworking.

I was in Cyprus a couple of weeks ago 40+ during the day and 32 at 1 in the morning! Too hot for woodworking by half.

yes, its an acquired taste, this much sun. But I wont go back to the UK to live till ill health forces me to.

Whereabouts did you stay?

Girne. It was lovely.

We came back from there only yesterday, after a 3 day hotel break at the acapulco.

Was it pegasus from stanstead, landing in Istanbul en route? Or Larnaca and a coach across the border?

we live on the south eastern (Cypriot) side, below famagusta.

Pegasus to Ercan via Istanbul. Having to wait 45 minutes on the tarmac was a bit of a pain but soon forgotten once the holiday got underway. We went to Acapulco a few times actually as the kids like to play in the water park although the apartment we were staying in is in central Girne. How did you find your stay at the hotel? We were thinking of booking a few days there next time we go.

I find that lots of retired ex-pats come over to the north. I think many fell for the island whilst doing national service and find the less developed north closer to the Cyprus they remember than the more affluent and highly developed south.

I wasnt service, and never came to cyprus till 2002 (around). I came to live here in 2008. We start our 9th year next week.

The property issues in the north over squatters selling illegal land puts many off of the north.
For us its the best of both. we have all the creature comforts of a european country, and can go to a completely different almost third world country with a 1/4 hours drive. i often need my passport to go out to eat, and i have my hair cut there also. you cannot beat a turkish barber, wherever in the world you are.

At the acapulco we stayed in the bungalows. they are tired and in need of a complete rebuild. I would rate the accommodation as 3 star at best. Dont know about the hotel rooms. Water parks as you know are good, but with poor staffing. We saw broken beer bottles at the poolside. Reported them but they never got removed. Food is a good 4 star, but the staff are typical minimum wage foreigners from all over the world and are disorganised, and dont seem to be very well trained.

Overall i wouldnt give it top marks, I'd say barely 4 star.
The spa on the other hand, rates a solid gold 5 stars. Superb layout, very competent staff, and reasonable prices too.

we are looking at a return in the winter (staying in the hotel this time) just to use the spa again.

If you want a 5 star treat, look up the merit crystal cove. If you want 5 star plus, the Merit Royal next door is one of the poshest hotels I have ever seen in all my travels. If you want a good comfortable 3+ star, the Ship at lapta is often used by our crowd.
