As I have said before I turn a lot of goblets but this one was a first. It was bought by a vicar as a communion cup for the Easter services as he liked the fact that it was wood and medieval in style. Wants a plate to match for the wafers.

I turn these in green oak and leave to warp, split etc. Usually don't get much in the way of split though some do take on rather unique shapes across the top at times lol

I like it. The finish is very clean and sharp if you turned it green - no splits to be seen either, and it still looks a good shape. Do they usually end up oval ? Mine do. I was told to allow 10% circumferential and 5% radial for shrinkage of fresh cut wood.

How do you get the smooth finish ? Sanding doesn't always work well on green wood ?
