I put one of these on my xmas/ birthday list a while ago and the birthday fairies brought one today, along with a blue wheel for the grinder :)
Question? How does one use one to create beads? In my ignorance I can only see using it as a scraper, which aint gonna be very clean?!?
anyone use one for anything but tenons?
TIA

Happy Birthday Nev! Cant help on the pointy tool unfortunately.

Reshape into a bedan, easier to use

Happy Birthday Nev :eek:ccasion5:

I Use a 10mm Beading and Parting tool all the time, in fact with my 1" SRG and Spindle Gouge I do nearly all of my spindle work with just these 3 tools.

The B&P does everything that a skew does but also does the sizing cuts, when used with callipers. It takes a bit more practice than a skew to roll beads, you have to make sure you really roll the tool over, but it works great for rolling beads, cleaning end grain, sizing parts and cutting fillets and other fine details.

If you get the chance, take a look at Gary Rances' DVD, he uses a round skew in the same way I use the B&P, but I get on better with the square tool.

PS, with reference to Loz's comment, it works just the same as a Bedan (just 2 bevels and not 1) so I cant see the advantage of the re-shape? YouTube Stu-in-Tokyo, Bedan, and Gary Rance while you're at it!! A couple of good little videos for you!

Hiya Richard,

I find flat bottom ( one big long bevel ) easier to steer into beads, rather than having to drive just the short bevel of the traditional beading tool, - I also find i get a better finish, due to the more acute angle at the edge.

I just also then rub a diamond file over the top to sharpen, leaving flat profiles,

just my personal take though,

All the best
Loz
