budget the SCHEPPACH BASATO 3 VARIO which is going for£419 with screwfix, which is a cracking deal
or the record bs350s, whch is a little out of my price bracket at the moment, shall i save ,
or should i go for the screwfix deal, which i am tempted.

You want tenons in 215mm rails.

The Basato can only cut 205mm, the Record will do 230mm.

When a show is ON, ou can get discount and delivery usually thrown in. Show on at Yandles yesterday and today. If your in a rush, just call the Record rep at Yandles and say you cannot get to the show but can he give you a show discount and what is it. It may just help to get the Record in line. Record is best.

The Record machine is cracking saw - I own a few Record machines and the build quality is pretty damned good. You get a lot for your money.

I own the Basato 3 and I'm pleased enough with it as it does everything an amateur like me requires, although having said that, I'm not putting large stock through the thing and not cutting veneers off wide boards etc. I thought when I bought the thing, that I might've made a mistake and should've waited and saved for a higher spec thing, but like I mentioned, it does everything I need it to do.

If you're needing it to cut tenons that wide, then obviously the Record is your machine.

I would tend to run something that wide over the table saw using a jig depending on its length, but if you don't have a table saw then the Record I'm sure, will handle that no probs.

I would set yourself up a taller fence as the stock fence may not be tall enough and could allow your stock to wander a bit when cutting.

And I'm sure most members will agree, that the blades that come with the machines are usually utter pants, so you should search the forum for opinions on good quality blades. If the bandsaw is your primary cutting machine, then you may need differing spec of blades.

Best of luck and welcome to this excellent forum.

YOUR NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS BUT AT PRESENT I/M CUTTING ALL MY TENNONS ON MITRE SAW WITH TRENCH FACILITY,TAKES AWHILE , AND PRETTY BORING. I HAVE A TABLE SAW , BUT I DON'T WANT TO TAKE THE GUARD OFF !
WHAT U THINK OF THIS?

Nothing that £100.00 would not take care of, but its a long way from you and the courier costs need to be taken into account, but a good Bandsaw never the less.

Mike

Could you use a router and largish cutter instead ? It's bound to leave a cleaner finish than trench cuts- and quicker......and you'd have a router to play with after.

Coley

Yep been there with the mitre saw. As Coley has mentioned, the router is far quicker cleaner.

That machine looks good. Nothing a little bit of TLC wouldn't sort.

hi mike
the guy as this saw advertised £700. but he will let it go @ 470, seems to good to be true,
what do u think mike , and I'm getting mixed reviews on the saw.
would the record bs350s be any better?
thanKs for your help.

Its pretty obvious that he is white van man so he can deliver  I don't know anything about JET saws, it does seem a bargain at £470, "caveat emptor" however the Record Power saws above the 250 have a very loyal following on here, indeed I have a 350S and could not be more please with it, I did get it at a good discount second hand with four Tuff Saw blades and roller bearing guides so its not standard, it re-saws 100mm Oak down to 3mm without trouble and will take the sides off 150mm logs ready for the planer which is what I bought it for in the first place.

Mike

Have you spoken with the seller to find out if he is the user or just someone that is selling something he bought to sell?
If he has used it and owned it for some time, then you may get a better feeling, but if it's just a 'sell on' bit of hardware, you may be buying something that you get stuck with that has problems. However, if you only want to spend that sort of money, then you generally get what you pay for. Is he near enough to go and inspect the machine? That would be best for any buyer.

HI
JUST MEASURED ITS NT GOING TO GET IT THROUGH THE SIDE GATE ONLY 740 MM TO PLAY WITH , THE JETS SHORTEST SIDE IS 900MM
ALSO I CHECKED OUT THE WEIGHT OF THE MACHINE , AND IT'S 165KG WHICH TRANSLATES IN TO 25 STONE, SURELY THIIS CAN'T BE RIGHT!
