Hi, I'm new here and looking for some advice.

I need to replace my table saw, looking form something with either 10" / 12" blade but with a good cast iron table. Accuracy is very important. Have a budget of £1000

I currently have an Axminster 8" saw but it's on the small side and lacks power.

Been looking at Axminster saws but reviews are not brilliant, SIP review are also poor.

Would anyone have any recommendations / suggestions?

I have the Axi 12" trade saw and use it everyday for making both solid and panel furniture. As long as you keep a good sharp blade in it, appropriate for the job (none of this general purpose stuff) and regularly clean the dust from the fence track it's absolutely fine.

I've just finished ripping a load of 90mm Oak with a freshly sharpened Atkinson Walker Rip blade and it steamed through about 45 metres of the stuff no problem - and all within .5 of a mm.

Would you consider buying second hand? 1k would easily get you something decent like a wadkin AGS 10/12 or maybe even Sedgwick TA315?

I'm in the process of upgrading from the second hand axminster ts-200 I picked up a little while back. It showed me that a TS was worth having but that it wasn't the one! I wanted something more robust and accurate. I've found a really nice wadkin ags 10 which is being delivered tomorrow. Equivalent quality new would be £2-3k I reckon.

Interesting choice of words there Mike. Just out of curiosity; what modern saw bench would you consider to be of equivalent quality to an old AGS? I have a cast iron 1963 Wadkin myself (not an AGS but similar) and can't say that any modern saw benches I have tried come anywhere close.

Thanks guys, I would consider buying second hand but have a major issue with access to my property, a Wadkin would be great but without a crane we would struggle to get it in to the workshop, the last time we hired a crane it cost us £800.00 for an hour

Given this, I think I am back to buying new.

Well I can't be sure because I haven't tried them! I've had a look at an axminster industrial rip saw which retails at £2700 I think. That seemed a solid bit of kit. A new Sedgwick TA-315 is about the same. Obviously I am no expert on this matter!
