The parent in laws were going to take this piece of wood to the local tip. So I kindly said I would take it off their hands to save them moving it 😉

So the question is, anyone got a clue what it might be? Would it be classed as spalted?

I suppose the next question is what to do with it once I know what it is.

Thanks in advance if you can help

Great save, thrown away would have been a travesty! The pale wood looks very ashy, but the contrasting dark burr wood is throwing me.

What to do with it is a great question. Is burr wood stable enough for structural elements? Seen it used with great success for door panels, or perhaps some amazing boxes?

Fitz.

Burr Oak... 100% I have a piece I've been intending to make as a clock. Had it for 30+ years but haven't had the time to sort it 😉🥴🤣
