Hi all

Picked up a saw at the car boot, confounded by the maker/retailer mark.

Looks like "Black & Milanda" or "Black & Milarsa". Seems a weird name and googling isn't helping.

Other marks are "Capital", "Cast Steel", "705" and "Sheffield", and a crown stamped on either side of the mark.

Seems to me that the 'Black & Milarsa", or whatever it says, has been stamped over the 'Capital Sheffield' mark so i wonder if that's the retailer and Capital the maker.

This had already earned it's place on my rack cos its not often my Google skilz fail me. lol

Thanks for any help

Thanks Andy @toolsntat

It seems, going by some maps linked to below, Capital steelworks was set up next to Slack Sellars & Co, in the workshops previously occupied by Dammemora steelworks. I wonder did Capital steelworks take stock from Slack & Selllars and put their own mark on top.

interesting maps

thanks for your help!

***edit***

Dammemora changed to Balfour post WWI and then to Capital
Arthur Balfour & Co.
