Help ID metal bar tool - Blacksmith's ?

Hi , just picked this up but am struggling to ID it,
3kg 16" long overall , taped handle part is nearly 7" , doesn't taper
1" thick where it widens to just over 2 1/2"

Sorry if this is too late a reply. My dad thinks its a blacksmiths 'punch' used for putting holes in hot metal. There could be another part to this tool , spring tongs for the apprentice to hold the punch in place.
