I need some hinges, they look like this:

They are rather chunky but brittle (cast?) iron.

The back story:

We live in a 1900's semi. One of the windows modified by a former owner, who removed the two hinged openers and replaced them with simple glass panes. (Who knows why? <shrug>). Our neighbour recently had some plastic double glazing fitted and offered us the two openers (complete with original metalwork). The double glazing fitters did not unscrew the hinges, but broke them off with crow-bars - apparently this took them more than half an hour Took me ten minute to unscrew the residual broken hinges. <sigh>

Chap in the local hardware store said 'they don't make those any more' which I assume means 'I have not got any in stock'. Anyone know if I will be able to get them on the web? I do not mind new (we are not sticklers for 'authentic'), but it would be a lot nicer if I could get some the same gauge metal. The modern ones I have seen look flimsy and cheap by comparison.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Pleased you found what you need. I used to have a number of these cast hinges, I collected when I worked on Council house maintenance. But I never moved to that cottage I always fancied and finally threw them out. Sorry!

It's a bit late to say it, but I've bought cast hinges from Bishopston Hardware on Gloucester Road in Bristol. It's a proper hardware shop with personal service and an excellent stock. Worth bearing in mind if you ever venture up the M5!

Thanks to Benchwayze.

I have had time to look at the hinges and they are a perfect match for the originals - apart from the three holes are staggered in the opposite pattern. The company were friendly and efficient, though the small order value made their p&p look expensive.
