My apologies for asking, I appreciate this topic has been covered more once, but I suppose I'm after a little confidence in case I make the wrong decision, if there is a wrong
decision to be made!

Which Planer/Thicknesser?

The Record Power PT260 package which includes the CX2000 Chip collector.

or the Axminster AW106PT2

Unless the fairies turn me into a woodworking genius overnight neither would be used on a daily basis. The record being a complete package including wheeled base, and if purchased from D&M Tools
you get £10.00 back in loyalty points and free carriage. I notice the free carriage offer with Record has been removed. Although if they still offer free carriage you save £10.00 on the blade setting jig
if purchased at the same time.

Then there's the Axminster AW106PT2. £100.00 more and no wheeled base or chip extractor, but from the basket total, free delivery. If it's to be the Axminster the next question would be which chip extractor?
Axminster wheeled bases range from £60 to £95 for the heavy duty one, which the AW106PT2 probably needs. I reckon the a chip extractor and blade setting jig I'll be in for over a £1000.00.

If I go the with the Record and spend that kind of money, I could get a band saw or at least most of one! :D

I recently bought the axminster and am very pleased with it. If you order over the phone you can get some freebies thrown in. I use an ordinary vacuum cleaner through a rutlands cyclone for extraction which cost a total of £80. This replaced a proper industrial extractor which just didn't do the job.

Thanks SPSlick...Freebies are always welcome :D Is it easy to change over and back again? You don't regret not buying separates? I've just been looking at the CT1502 and the Jet JWP12 as a possible alternative!
If the Rutlands cyclone does the job that's certainly a saving on the extractor.

Only takes a couple of minutes to change. Also I mounted it on castors from ebay which cost about £20.

Great little video and very well presented, I reckon I'm sold :D

Be careful not to watch any of his Festool videos, it gets expensive

is it important to you to buy a brand new machine- for some people it is, others not so? You could save enough buying a used model to help with the bandsaw fund.

Hello Mark. I don't have a problem buying secondhand if it's something I know about, but I think with this I'd rather have the peace of mind and a guarantee. I've had a look on Gumtree and the only one that's fairly local is in Wigan, a 12" Wadkin!

It's been ordered, but delivery will take two weeks! They had one in stock in Warrington as well, it'll fit in the car [ Citroen Berlingo ] but I wouldn't be able to get it out once home. I could have asked our lass I suppose, but I'll have to wait :D
