I have recently bought a smallish bandsaw/fretsaw.

I am away at the moment, however on my return I plan to build a small stand/bench to mount this on. I left it just sitting on my workbench which is probably too high. I dislike low benches as my back aches if I spend time bending over.

Does anybody have advice upon what height in relation to, say my waist, I should construct the stand?

Thank you for your help. Mike

If you suffer from a bad back, why not put it at the height recommended for a lathe?

Saw table at the same height as your elbow is from the floor.

I'll stand by to be told I'm wrong.

Ok, so you feel the height for the metal table of the saw itself to be as my elbow when I'm standing erect with my arm vertical by my side.

I do not have a bad back, however my back does ache if I spend long periods bent over.

Thank you for your help.

One thing to bear in mind is not so much what level your hands will be, but what level you are comfortable viewing at.

Bad backs are often caused by bending to look, as much as bending to use your hands.
