I received this from a friend this morning.

"We keep a close eye on an elderly neighbour. A few days ago we noticed an uncollected parcel on his front doorstep. Concerned, Barbara went across and rang his bell. No problems, thanked B and he said it had happened before. Last time he ran the parcel courier company and said he was up, awake and alert at the time of the delivery. Why had they not rung the front doorbell?

Quote: 'We do not ring doorbells to prevent the operator receiving an electric shock'

WHAT MADNESS.

If battery operated the voltage will not more than 12Vdc. If mains operated it is via a transformer usually 8Vac.
Double jeopardy, at the minimum, is required. Mains powered, a faulty transformer and an uninsulated bell push.

I would like to see the stats on this, or is it just an excuse for a faster (lower cost) means of delivery, at the expense of the customer's convenience?

We have no info concerning which company. Not Royal Mail - we asked our local postie."

Agree, total madness.

If they don’t ring the bell what’s wrong with a knock on the door, (silly me), they could damage/hurt their knuckles. #-o

No I think its just a lame excuse for poor service/care.

Take care.

I watched the postman writing the "Sorry you were out" card as he walked up my path before silently putting it through the letterbox...

+1 on this, or to be honest about 6. We live at the end of a long drive (about 100 yards) and this oftne seems far to far to walk. We have had deliveies left at the ned of the drive which is a busy main road. Notes saying they tried to deliver and we were out put under my sons wiper blades which is at then end of the drive, and notes saying sorry you were out pushed through the door saying they couldn't deliver a book from Amazon that would easily fit through the letterbox.

To cap it all I work from home so am allways here.

James
