Hey all.
can I pick your brains on where you get to square cut hardwood?

I’m an intermediate woodworker that mainly dabbles in various softwoods and uses off scraps of hardwoods for small projects. That has worked fine, I’ve cut my teeth doing it and business is good but I feel that to expand into higher price brackets and profits, I should really experiment with higher quality materials, farmhouse oak dining tables and walnut coffee tables etc.
Where does everyone buy their hardwood?
Softwoods are stocked everywhere but the only hardwoods I can find are at the smaller rare/exotic stores with inconsistent sizes, qualities and prices.
I realise the nature of hardwoods mean that this is most likely the case with all stocks but is there somewhere that I can get consistent hardwood stock?
I’m in Glasgow in the UK.
Thank in advance!
Cheers

Welcome.

Square cut? Much hardwood is sold in waney edged sawn boards, and you need to rip it to width yourself. Are you after planed or sawn stock?

Andy, how do you make links like that, with a thumbnail of the first post of the thread you are linking to? Everyone seems to do it, but I've no idea.....

Just copy the link (from your browser's address bar) and paste it into the body of your message. No need for any of the formatting buttons.

The forum code automatically styles the link, as you can confirm with the preview button if you wish.

It does the same trick with links to YouTube videos, and probably many more besides.

Quite a few places do PAR or part sawn. I have bought some from Woodshop Direct - Leading Supplier Of Quality Machined Timber, but 6 weeks later it's still not reached the estimated delivery date (any day now hopefully!) as I guess Covid affected their operations.

Yandles can supply stuff already prepped too, maybe SL Hardwoods or Timberline? Really depends what timbers you're after.

I didn't originally see you were in Glasgow, but they all deliver anyway.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum. Probably the 2 best places to get hardwood easlily up here are firstly, the closest to you, Lanarkshire Hardwoods located just on the Edinburgh side of Carstairs Junction

and 2nd Brodies just south of Dunkeld

There are a couple of smaller places around Glenrothes and Dunfermline and of course the borders. you can see a ggod list of them here
