On Saturday morning I went outside to find my hanging basket looking very sorry for itself. It looked like half the plants were missing, and those that were left were all droopy. My first reaction was that I'd let it dry out, but no, the soil was moist enough. No sign of the deceased heads. Very strange.

This morning I was out at the front and my NDB1 neighbour pulled up.

"Have the police been to see you?", she asked.

Apparently on Saturday morning, about 6am, she heard a commotion outside and stuff being smashed. She looked out to see two youths on one side of the road and two girls on the other, shouting and generally being yobbish.

"Get that hanging basket!", said one of the girls, so one of the youths did as he was told, and then dumped it in someone else's garden.

My neighbour dialed 101 and the police came, searched in vain for the yobs, retrieved my hanging basket and returned it to its hook. Apparently they rang but I never heard. I am often up at 6, but just lately I have had very poor sleep and I think I was only just getting off to sleep at 6 am, let alone ready to get up.

So instead of a nice, bonny, colourful HB outside my front door I have a sad-looking bunch of generic growth. Why do some people do things like that eh? It's just wanton destruction of something beautiful in an area where there is little beauty to start with. Unfortunately Claire did not see the faces of the culprits, so I assume they will simply get away with it and go on to the same, and more, again.

Sorry to hear that Steve.
Its so frustrating when idiots do things like this, you can understand why some many people have CCTV cameras on their houses now.

Sorry to hear that Steve.

Some people padlock there hanging baskets to the brackets, you shouldn't have to but the knuckle draggers force your hand.

At least the police turned up!

I had a broken moped stolen from my back garden a few years ago. It was my little brothers and he was looking at doing it up, they pushed it through the estate and smashed it up behind some garages. The thing is, people KNEW who did it as a complete stranger told me where to find MY bike..... It had been in my back garden for a day apparently (I say apparently because even I didn't know it was there) It saved me the trouble of having to get rid of it because knowing my brother, he would have messed around with it for a week or so, realise he couldn't get it to work and then leave it at mine for me to dispose of.

It was Middlesbrough mind and I have since moved to a 'safer' area..............

We had an idiot young lad at work that though it was a good idea to see if he could throw one of his local pub's hanging baskets over the roof.
He ended up with quite a big bill i seem to recall.
Think that was only a few months prior to being done for drink driving.
