Our Medieval re-enactment group has a VERY good blacksmith in it. I can't afford his hinges! He makes them using authentic methods usually in the middle of a field. This box has his hinges on. They would retail at £45 a pair. He makes the nails as well, but there is a surprising amount of work in them,

I've used 40 or 50 of these nails now, having bought 300. Here is a comparison with some modern handmade nails, and a 300 year old version. The French machine-made nails are the 2 on the right:

They're patently different, with a slim and uniform shank, albeit square sectioned. However, they are an excellent product, and look great. The heads have some variability, and they clench over nicely. I'm very pleased with them, and also with the price.
