Col,

Great news! :D Give 'em a shot, you might be surprised. Make sure those cutters are nice and sharp and check the body, skate and fence on the #50 are all parallel. (DAMHIKT... ) There's some good tips in here and here on using metal ploughs/combination planes. And for those eager to know, here's a picture of a Woden #78.

Cheers, Alf

SDP,

I just checked my Woden, and it certainly can. I'm 99.8% certain the Record can too. You sinister woodworker you...

Cheers, Alf

Thanks guys, I'm upto my neck in kitchens at the moment but I will clean them up and give them a go. My old man used to teach woodwork so maybe he'll be watching over me when I get them out and give me a kick up the a..e if I don't use them properly

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Col
