I'm doing a picture frame project with some lovely old mahogany. I'm looking for a grain filler and it seems that Rustins mahogany is nearly twice the price of their natural or oak one. Question is, can I mix in some wood dye with Rustins natural or does anyone have recommendation for alternative mahogany grain fillers? Thanks.

Aren't you supposed to mix up their grain filler with white spirit to make a paste? If so, I don't see why you cant add some spirit based stain.

I believe that's the case but have no experience of doing it. But I agree with your logic that, as long as it's spirit stain, it should mix in okay.
