Holiday soon and would like an up to date, good book or two on woodworking with a bandsaw to read whilst away. Suggestions please that may cover a beginner and having some project suggestions may be useful

I am still looking for a suitable bench top bandsaw, (no room for floor standing) and any suggestions of models to consider up to £400, but not rusty old equipment to do up, but new or just a year or two old. Also any makes to avoid would be helpful.

Many thanks
Alex

I am not sure that anything really exists- you may get something on bandsaw boxes. You would probably be better to get a general book and use your bandsaw as the need crops up. To set it up, when you get it, there are numerous articles online and plenty on YouTube. You need to sense check it, but a book on the subject would be about a 1000% over the top.

You may find reasonable books on jigs, but I think that you are better to see what jigs you need and research those rather than the other way round.

For holiday reading, what about something to inspire you- krenov's cabinetmakers notes for instance. If budget is limited, you could do worse than get a couple of Charles Haywood's books- they are 3 or 4 quid used on Amazon/Abe and excellent value for money, if his veneering one is anything to go on. Haywood may be spelt wrong, by the way!

Thank you marcros and foxhunter,

since asking the question, I have been scouring the web and just sent off for 'New Complete Guide to the Bandsaw' as here, if anyone else may be interested ....... http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Complete- ... 1565233182 It looks as if it may be informative and with my interest in buying a bandsaw, should fill my spare time whilst lying round the pool in the sunshine soon.

If anyone has other information, please let me know.

Not a book, but putting one of Steve Maskery's Bandsaw DVDs onto an iPad would teach you pretty much all you need to know about bandsaws during your holiday!

Thanks guys,

I have been looking at so many videos about bandsaws recently and have sent off for 'New Complete Guide to the Bandsaw' bok, so that I can have something to read on holiday as well as woodworking magazines.

I already feel that when a bandsaw does eventually arrive, I will get down to some serious tuning as well as ordering Tuffsaw blades before using in in anger. Just need to decide what to buy. Not an old banger to do up, but something new or 12 months old within £400 if possible and still researching on this. Perhaps a bit of sunbathing will help out.
