My good lady loves all the upcycling / recycling / decorating....etc programmes and as a quid pro quo for the sport I record, I occasionally have to sit through some of these.
I have just sat through Gok, Jay (him of the cap and the leather apron - Money for Nothing) and a couple of other “designers / makers”.
Words absolutely fail me and had this programme been on the 1st April, I’d have thought it would have been a really good wind up and several people would have believed it to be real. However I’m told it was real!
Having been watching the Victorian Arts and Crafts House which did attract some criticism here, Gok’s House is on a level all of its own......!
If anyone has seem any of these, can you let me know it isn’t me please?
My missus does have a bit of an eclectic taste (as exhibited by marrying me) but there has to be a limit surely?

Broadcasters are under constant pressure to both 'fill' time slots AND provide new stimuli to an already over-sated viewing audience.
In this context, something that no one else is doing (for reasons of taste or common sense) is actually attractive because it represents something that is thereby 'different ' and so will contrast and stand out from more conventional (restrained/aesthetic) programming, ergo, the jaded TV addicts seeking a new 'fix' will jump at it.
Doesn't make it good quality, fit for purpose or pleasant to look at, but it helps with ratings and provides the chattering classes or readers of the Sunday supplements some way to occupy their existences....

Sam, not in the slightest way cynical..OR CRITICAL OF MRS GLYNNE!!

Those programs produced a lively thread debate a few months ago Glynne, I hate them as all I see in the main is rubbish usually a chair with one leg painted yellow or pink. but that's just my personal opinion as I'm all in favour of using reclaimed wood, just prefer to make something decent out of it.

Sam is right, the broadcasters need to pad out the programs and it drives me nuts so I just switch off. The typical is where they are looking at several issues ( house auctions, inheritance searches etc. can't remember the prog names ) and they're disjointed so the jump from one to the other and back, each time repeating what they've already shown, result a 15 min prog padded out to 45 minutes.
