Having spend £120 on wood at the Home of word open day I went to the Toolpost open weekend today and SWIMBO made me spend a lot more. I wanted a sorby spindle master to try so I got one of them ( well, the hamlet version actually ) and a diamond stone to sharpen it, then I was looking at the Camvacs ( I already have one ) and was FORCED ( :) ) to buy a twin motor wall hanging model to run the trunking so I could free up the current one for using on the lathe and vacuuming the floor etc.

Life is such a trial. (hammer) (hammer) (hammer)

A wife in a million Graham  Does she know what yet what you.ve spent?

Well Graham you must have a well equipped workshop. So when are you going to do some turning

Sorry could not resist

I would take affence at that Derek

but I have brick walls so don't need one.

I do a bit most days but mostly practice pieces which end in the bin.

I am tied up with grandkids tomorrow and in laws on Monday but will do something to show midweek

I thought you would have come up with " I would take afence but took the gate instead"

OK I am on the way out

As has already been said by Dalboy (*) and at the time completely took the wind out of the witty response I was going to post.

I think you need to get into reverse gear and not respond to any urges to get out more, "And Spend More Time In The Shed" else you are going to end up like the rest of us a few years down the line wondering why you wasted money on stuff you don't use or need.

Hi

Don't worry - there's only so many tools etc. you can justify for woodturning, after 15 years and several thousand pounds I think I'm approaching that limit

Most have been funded by items I've turned so I don't have to justify it too much to the better half :)

Regards Mick

You don't need that many turning chisels all I need are in the racks except the crown revolution which now fills one of the two empty racks.

I originally only started with the lathe a chuck and three chisels and since then have mainly brought as needed.

You can say that about any hobby - you don't need that many: golf clubs, fishing rods, hand planes, garden tools etc. - it doesn't stop the majority of us buying them

Regards Mick

Indeed, I just bought another rod today based on a Henry Gilbey article in this months sea angler.

Wow, I started with a crown set plus a half inch crown bowl gouge. I have since bought a round nose scraper, a half inch spindle gouge and a special bowl gouge from Peter Childs ( which has yet to be assembled, let alone used). I still have not got the hang of the skew, except I use it as a straight scraper and for cutting the angled bits of mortices for my chuck. So I have more tools than I have skills :)
