It really pi**es me off with all the adverts for online casinos and betting just recently, not to mention shops in the high streets for it! most people are having trouble trying to feed themselves and pay bills let alone gamble online!

I agree, and you can do it on your mobile too! What with gambling and 'give just £2 a week' ads there's not allot left.

Gary

It annoys me the way the gambling sites portray it as joining a big happy party whereas in reality it just sitting on your own behind a computer. Perhaps the profusion of on-line gambling is linked to a similar growth of the on-line loan sharks?

Agree 100% ban them and those semi legal loan sharks who portray themselves as the good guys by offering you a payday loan extortionate interest rates.

Tip of the iceberg, if you remember correctly, in 2007 there were nearly one thousand gambling sites banned in the UK.

The U.S. Justice department and the World Trade Organisation class it as an Illegal Activity. Others state "The scope of this business is so enormous that some have even claimed it is the single most important factor in the growth of e-commerce"

The most ridiculous part of the ads is at the end, when they say "Please gamble responsibly" . I didn't think that was possible.

Yes it is.

Only bet what you can afford to lose.

Try telling that to addicted gamblers. My dad lost a couple of hundred thousand pounds and a business gambling on the pony's when I was a kid, and with help he just manage to get it under control before we lost our house.

In those days you never saw a woman in the bookies, but now due to online casino's and especially bingo women are catching up with men when it comes to the addiction side of it.

The sad thing is, it is an illness just like any other, which can breakup families and as usual the children suffer most of all.

So YES, just like smoking these adverts should be banned.

Cheers

By definition if you're an addict be it gambling, smoking or alcohol you're not going to take a blind bit of notice of any type of warnings.

We are often told there is only one person that they will take notice of ... themselves. Only once they see their habit as a problem can they start to live with attempting to control it day by day.

Yes. Banning adverts will remove one form of temptation but even without them you'll probably know where, or at least how, to find what you crave.

You've only got to walk down your local High Street to find Bookmakers (strange how bookies never seem to go bust?), fruit machines (pubs) or scratch cards (news agent) to feed your habit.

You don't even have to leave your house to find ways of losing money you just need a computer / smartphone these days.

The tag lines "Please xxxx responsibly" are there to protect the suppliers, not the consumers.

Yes if you're already gambling Nigel but adverts are aimed at susceptable people, often bored and even worse if struggling for money as it can be seen as a "miracle" salvation out of poverty.
Adverts especially when people are bombarded with them can start the recipients down the road to addiction.

Advertising works! That's why it's a billion £s industry.

Gambling is as pernicious as smoking and drinking. Adverts for it have no place on our TV screens. Can I add the advertising of apocalyptic, war based video games to my list of ad's that produced head shaking disbelief and incredulity in this household.

And while I'm on my soap box am I the only one that finds the facile 118 118 ad's driving them quietly insane!!!!!

I just find gambling a seedy and stupid pastime, it's designed for you to loose, so why do it. I agree the ads should go.

Try telling that to all the people who have won millions on the lottery!

And all the people who had to lose more than they can really afford chasing this dream of instant fortune, to fund the few winners. ( oh! and a little left over for Camelot) :D

Ban all gambling ads.

Phil

Thing is, all these gambling sites offer free bets to new sign ups, now if you spread bet these offers on both a win and a lose for the same match its a guaranteed free profit whatever the outcome :D

If you don't understand how it works or if you struggle with odds do not even contemplate this......
