Friction polish

Hello all,

I recently purchased some chestnut friction polish and I'm wondering where it can and cannot be used? I'm pretty sure it's not food safe.

The things I guess I'd like to apply it to would be fruit bowls, toys and pens.

Chestnut friction polish is basically shellac, food save when dry, it's used to put gloss on stored Apples and other fruit amongst other things.

Easy to use on pens and the like but needs some considerable practice to apply to large surfaces as the tendency will always be to generate build up streaks rather than an even spread.

Basically apply in very small quantities and work rapidly over a wide area, it dries off rapidly in use.
Spread rapidly and slowly increase pressure as it hardens.

If you master applying friction polish over large areas without streaks and build up then you will have little problems with anything else other than Melamine enhanced lacquers.

If you get build up then blend down with meths and start again.

Thanks that's the perfect info I was after! I wondered about after drying . I made a bowl last night and finished it with the earlier mentioned product. Bowl has roughly a 7 inch diameter.

Really pleased with the finish
