Going to get cracking on sourcing materials for my car port for my bungalow.
I plan on having a 10 metre one made out of timber and 25 mm polycarbonate roof.

Not quite sure what to use as posts though.

Should I go with 3 x 3 wood or a metal pole or a plastic post?

Anyone know who does metal posts BTW
Thanks.

Buy some new galvanised scaffold tubes. They are about 21 foot as standard and 1-29/32" diameter
Let them weather for a year or so and then the galvanised surface will take paint much better if needed.
You can get nice looking fittings to screw the ends to your wood. search for KeeKlamps.

I built a carport for the inlaws some time ago, I used box section, with plates welded on each end, one for ground fix, top one angled to carry the rafters. Had it all galvanised. Easy when thats your line of work.

Kee klamp as mentioned above, would make it simple.
Probably want a 132D for the ground fixes, and a 152D for the tops, assuming you will have a timber eaves beam.....think they are Interclamp numbers, might not tally up with the Kee numbers.

They are not the cheapest things to buy, but they are easy and fast, probably around £7-8 a fitting.
