hi all,
just wondering if anyone here knows where i can buy a decent dial calliper with fractions on the dial instead of decimals,
also in imperial, preferably to 64th's
thanks again!!
I have tried searching on here etc but have been unable to find anything as of yet

cheers, Matt

Hi Matt,

You may find the easiest (and cheaper) option is to go for a Digital display as opposed to dial.

Example: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=56337

If you want Imperial only, I would think you need to look for USA manufactured kit.

I don't know of any that show fractional units though.
Kit I have going back 40+ years are in decimal and have conversion charts to show fractions.

I have a digital and two dial imperial fraction calipers. I work in inches most of the time.
I bought the first dial from Highland Hardware and its stainless steel, the second one I picked up on ebay and its plastic  made by Rabone (Swiss made). I now have the David Charlesworth books and he has the metric version in some of the pictures, so I am in good company. :D

I find the fraction dial much better for use when woodworking and the Rabone is in use most of the time.

I have bought a number of things from Highland Hardware and they are very good at dealing with orders from this side of the pond. 8)

Hi

Cromwell tools (a huge engineering supplier based near leicester) will have one. Use their index facility on the left of screen and then search within the results. Note that Cromwell sell equipment aimed at precision engineering companies - extremely accurate and high quality
