Sorry for the short notice but I'm about to do a upgrade on the forum. Shouldn't take more then 10mins once I start. You might get an error while I'm doing it.

Okay the forum has been upgraded to phpbb 2.0.10 to fix some bugs and security holes.

Please let me know if you get any errors...

That explains the message about deleting folders!

I also seem to have lost all my read flags - hardly a real problem though

Must have been a smooth upgrade!

Yup that was while I was updating the database...

Is the latest upgrade the reason why we can no longer hide our presence when browsing the forum?

You're normally hiding? 'Tis nice to see you out of the bunker!

Hi Adam

Thanks for the thought. One of the moderators has just answered my question by private message. Apparently, the settings have been adjusted to prevent members from hiding their presence.

I am very uncomfortable with this decision because I shall feel under pressure to contribute to the forum every time I visit it. As a result, this will be my last contribution and my last visit.

Yours

Gill

Oh dear, lots of people visit every day without posting, I notice loads of people (like yourself) who just read through lots of postings, and haven't the time or inclination to get heavily involved with threads. Just posting an odd message here and there when it's important.

You could always logout and just read as a guest? Only logging in now and again if you wanted to?

Not sure why, Gill. As Adam says, lots of people do visit and never say a word. We don't mind. It's rather nice just to see that people are alive and kicking without having to say "Hey, anyone heard from so-and-so?"

'Course I've just realised there's no point in typing this, 'cos you've just said this was your last visit... Well, fwiw for anyone else who might feel uncomfortable about it. Don't be.

Cheers, Alf

It would be a shame to see you go over such a small change

I often log in, read through the posts, find I have nothing to say/add and then logout. I do not feel nor see why you should feel any pressure to contribute.

Hi Gill, (if you're still there)

Sorry I've only just seen your first reply. The moderators and I took a vote and decided that we should disable the hidden users option.

As mentioned no one minds if we see you online but you don't post. It is just nice seeing people on here. As Adam says, you could even sign out so you're a guest.

Dear Gill

The bunker still works in "guest mode".

Hope you change your mind and you return in the future.

All the very best.

Neil
