can anyone recommend a decent forstner bit for drilling beech / oak and the two i have wont touch it..

is it a one off steve, or a regular requirement?

my screwfix set are good, but if you are using a single size a lot as a (mini) production run, i would be tempted to get a single, high quality bit from the likes of famag (workshop heaven are stockists).

I bought these a while ago now over two years at least for site work only cost me £30 approx

They have never been sharpened ,they have had an extremley hard life drilling through all sorts Plasterboard,Mdf,Kitchen units Thermal blocks, Hardwoods and soft woods alike,
Highly recommend them
The spade bits and twist drills are crap though LOL

If i can get one to work for me i will be doing lots of candle holder type things to go with my scroll sawing stuff, i looked at the screwfix ones but there isn't a 40mm one, however the 41 mm should be close enough but i also saw an Axcaliber too, are these any good..

Thank you for the help so far..

I bought one from Trend, it has saw teeth (long series) and cuts hardwood no problem around £25 iirc.

Steve, if you are drilling into end grain a Forstner won't do very well at all. A sawtooth bit would be better.

EDIT:
i have actually just ordered the colt from axminster, after watching the video's i was impressed..

I used the colt to cut 8" thick beech, worth the money

can i ask what speed you would use in a bench press drill please...

looking at the video their bit was spinning really fast into end grain...
