Fold down bench

My sheds well on the way to completion and I'm planning how to make best use of the space.

Its only 10x8 so I'm planning to have an L shaped set of benches down two of the sides with a view to making the 8 feet side a fold down bench so I have room to assemble etc should I need it.

Has anyone ever seen any hinger like this?

I have bench tops ready but the mechanism looks excellent and sturdy.

I specified a hinge not too different to this a good few years ago. The weight bearing of the hinges was more than any fixings i could get.

it has a 500kg rating per hinge, and all you do, is lift up slightly, pull the lever and then it will drop down. Very study.

Not sure if this is what your looking for. Most hardware suppliers can supply it. They don't do DIY last time i checked, so i just got it from Strada. But if you go on line, you'll find a supplier.

If special hinges are too hard to find or too dear you could consider a pair of folding legs, hinged to the benchtop, which would swing back when the top was lifted - as discussed in this thread.

My father had something on those lines years ago, where the legs swung into position and were secured with door bolts into the floor. It was quite sturdy - but as I recall, it only ever got completely cleared and folded away on the day he installed it, and was never quite clear of stuff again!

Wickes used to stock something similar, but last time I was in there I didn't see it. Might be worth a look, though.

Don't let the reference to wallplugs in the URL put you off - I just checked the link and it seems to work.
Might not be big/strong enough for you but certainly cheap...

I would definately go with AndyT's suggestion.

With hinges only you'll be relying heavily on the wall fixing, and no matter how good that is you'll still get 'bounce' due to any (even very slight) flexing in the wall. As it's a 'shed' I assume it's wooden construction?

With folding legs that go down to the floor you'll get much less 'bounce' and you'll be much more confident putting your weight on it.
