I am building a frame to put my Tablesaw on (wadkin 10 so fairly heavy)
I need to move it about the workshop
Do I need 2 fixed \ 2 swivel or all swivel?
It does not need to travel far but needs to move in both directions
I have not worked out best option to raise \ lower saw yet to make solid in use

Steve

all swivel will make it unmanageable. Two fixed at the rear, two swivel at the front, and if its a heavy machine it wouldnt hurt to have all four braked, but AT LEAST two braked.

Depends how you need to manoeuvre it in your shop. I have to move my tablesaw in an "L" shape to put it in position for cutting long lengths so I need all swivel. Best if all 4 are braked, problem then with all swivel is that 2 of the brakes end up under the saw so I need to get down and use my hands.

Bob in sunny Cyprus? I have both permutations in my wee (10' x 8') workshop and I move my AGS and Axi dusty outside to work in quantity. I assure you, NO WAY would I manage if my AGS trolley had "2 fixed" castors. My Axi has this and I regularly have to lift the swivelling end up in the air and then 'wheelbarrow' it into place; like to see you do that with an AGS...

Secondly, I find I rarely have to brake my castoring, though most of my cuts are on small section wood, so maybe the potential to move is related to how big a moment of force I enact at the blade/fence? Having said that, I do realise it's an accident waiting to happen and I'm moving to a 'suspended' saw/base a la Matthias Wendel/Gordon Miller, with Chris Pinney's iteration* probably being my final choice.

sounds like I need to try both options
I do not have braked castors so will need to be a Plan B for that aspect

Just my two penneth, you've seen it before Steve

I utilized the wheels of my kids folding scooters (they're now both in their mid twenties)

it can either be moved wheelbarrow style (using the fence bars as handles) or with the bar for more maneuverability

the bar is also used on other machines (Morticer, Bandsaw etc)

no swivel or locking castors and rock solid when in use

possibly wont suit everybody but food for thought
